2008-09 Lessons from the Field: Autism Series
Workshop #4: Integrative Medicine

The fourth workshop in the 2008-09 Lessons from the Field Series on Autism Spectrum Disorders focused on Integrative Medicine, featuring Dr. Lawrence Rosen, a board-certified general pediatrician committed to family-centered, holistic child health care. He practices primary care at the Whole Child Center in Oradell, NJ and consults at the Joseph M. Sanzari Children's Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center, serving as Chief of Pediatric Integrative Medicine.
Dr. Rosen is a nationally recognized expert in Pediatric Integrative Medicine, acting as Chair of the Integrative Pediatrics Council (IPC), a non-profit group dedicated to transforming children's health care, and a founding member and vice-chair of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Complementary and Integrative Medicine. He also holds an appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor at New Jersey Medical School. He presented on current research in the field of integrative medicine and its application in working with children with autism and their families.
Dr. Allison Golnik, Department of Pediatrics, University of Minnesota, presented the results from a physician survey on complementary alternative medicine for children with autism. A panel discussion including University faculty and community professionals with expertise in the field of autism followed the presentations.

GOAL:
To provide human services and health care professionals, social workers, educators and parents with an understanding of current research in integrative medicine and its application in working with children with autism and their families.

Application for 3 CEU's per workshop was made to MN DHS Child
Protection and the Boards of Social Work, Psychology, Marriage &
Family Therapists, and Certified Family Life Educators. Certificates
of Attendance were available upon completion of each workshop. The Certificate of Attendance can also be used for nursing and teaching CEU's, which do not require pre-approval.
