Children's Mental Health Case Study

Welcome to the Children’s Mental Health Case Study.

In 2007, the Center for Excellence in Children’s Mental Health (CECMH) received a Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL) Grant, sponsored by the Office of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost and the Office of Information Technology (OIT). TEL grant recipients develop, implement, and evaluate an educational technology project and discuss their work with fellow grant recipients and members of the larger University community in a regular program of cohort meetings and public events. For our project, CECMH created an interactive, web-based case study to train students in service disciplines to respond effectively to children experiencing mental health concerns. This tool consists of two valuable components. First, it provides an in-depth look at a young person’s experience with mental health concerns. Second, it provides specific resources pertaining to prevention, assessment, referral, and treatment of children’s mental health issues.

This case is designed with an interdisciplinary perspective – the child in this case encounters many types of professionals and all play different but overlapping roles with respect to his health.  Users are encouraged to consider the roles and perspectives of other professionals as they make decisions about this child’s care.
