CONTENT:
Dr. Sulik, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Medical Director of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of St. Cloud Hospital Behavioral Health Services, is a national presenter on depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma and violence in children and adolescents as well as a consultant on models of integrating children’s mental health with primary care needs. This practice-oriented workshop focused on the inter-relationship between attachment and other developmental/mental health concerns in children as they grow. Other mental health concerns that were differentiated and addressed include, anxiety, trauma and PTSD, neurodevelopmental and behavior disorders, mood disorders, agitation and aggression. In addition this workshop addressed the inclusion of attachment interventions in conjunction with treatment planning for multiple developmental/mental health concerns.
GOAL:
To provide human services professionals, social workers, educators and parents with an understanding of attachment research and theory and its implications for practice as it applies to the inter-relationship between attachment and other children’s mental health concerns.
OBJECTIVES:
This workshop provided attendees with the ability to:
- Identify and discern the different ways that attachment disturbances can inter-relate with other developmental/mental health concerns in children.
- Differentiate diagnostic characteristics specific to attachment disorders.
- Identify and differentiate characteristics of other mental health diagnosis including anxiety, trauma and PTSD, neurodevelopmental and behavior disorders, mood disorders, agitation and aggression.
- Understand and apply methods for addressing attachment interventions in conjunction with treatment planning for multiple developmental/mental health concerns
